Can I connect a new bathroom vent fan duct in basement to existing one from 1st floor thats already going out?

I'm installing a bathroom in the basement and want to connect the new duct to an existing duct that is already running to the outside. Can I do it ?|||you can but each fan will not be as effective when both are on at the same time
