How can I clean my bathroom without killing the ants who hunt there?

I know this question may seem odd to yall, but I have a great love for ants, respect them with a lot of passion, I guess because a lot of folks don't seem to think much of them at all. An ant never bothered me. Eww a roach does! LOL

There is an "army" of black ants that hunt in my bathroom along my tub, and I try and wipe around them, but sometimes, I accidently swipe a few.

Besides killing them, is there another way to clean, so I don't?

PS xenypoo is not crazy, just very loving towards all animals, except flies, and roaches.|||Just ask all of your ant friends to patiently wait outside while you clean the bathroom. Then when you're done you can let them back in.

Or you could train the ants to clean the bathroom for you. That would be a win-win.

Good luck.|||I like ants too! I like all animals. Put them on a newspaper and bring them outside. That way they are living, they are where they're supposed to be, and you can clean.|||As a Buddhist I have to congratulate you.

Perhaps you can eliminate the ant's food source.|||Ants suck, kill them all!

Retiling my bathroom - putting house up for sale - Nothing special - Is it easy to do with a friend?

I have a 6x8 bathroom of which the tub takes up 3x6. would it be very diffucult to remove the tile on the floor and the wall (7 foot wall, the tiles go up about 4 feet) - i figure this could be an easy way to upgrade my bathroom - currently the tile in it is from the early 60's.

Additionally - would I have to remove my toilet to retile?|||Long story in brief.

It is not easy the first time.

It is not hard, but will be time consuming to do correctly.

Yes you need to lift the toilet.

You will need a tile saw for a bathroom job. no too expense as it is a one time use, but the electric is worth it because you will be triming a lot of pieces.

You will want a tile nipper tool

You will need a flat towel and a grooved trowel

A rubber hammer, rule, level and basic capenter tools

Remove the old tile. Try not to rip the drywall or you will need to replace pieces you rip.

Remove the floor tile, then (very important) you must skim and level the floor so it is perfect. (I assure you a wife will "feel" a uneven surface in the bathroom, thru high heels or combat boots)

Laying tile is the easy part. Lay a row agaist a straight and square wall. Measure - do not eyeball or you line will be off.

Work out from the striaght row. Groove mastic down in a area you are working in, press tiles in place. tap with hammer or wiggle and press (but leave square)

after all title is in a day later you tap for miss set tile and then grout if happy. trim grout with a popsile stick, wash title.

Come back next day and wash again and seal.

Hurry and the tile will pop or grout will crack.|||its not rocket science, wet saw, trowel, square thin set, dry lay out to make sure cuts are on the wall full tiles through middle.|||not an easy job ,have to cut tiles etc.|||Retiling is quite easy, but if you've not done it before you might want to go to a home store that offers free do it yourself classes. (Home Depot has a lot of classes on tile installation.) It's not that it's hard to do the actual work, it's just that there are several different choices of what to use to mount the tile. Since it's going in a bath enclosure you should want to make sure you use the right material to prevent mold for the next homeowner. (Not to mention liability on your part)

You will need to take the toilet out to tile under it.|||Where is your house located? I'm currently looking at houses in the North/North Shore area.|||YES IT'S EASY...JUST GO TO HOMEDEPOT...AND BUY THE BOOK IT WILL TELL U EVERYTHING U NEED TO DO AND BUY....|||It is def one of the easiest things to do as long as you have the tools to do it....wet saw, grout, grout sealer, etc. go to DIYnetwork.com they will tell you how to do it.

How can I keep my bathroom mirror from fogging up?

It is a very small room with no ventilation except the overhead fan, which runs whenever you turn the light on in the bathroom. I like to finish readying for work right after a shower, but the mirror is hopelessly fogged and it takes a long time to clear. Is there a cheap, easy 'home remedy' for this? Anything I can coat the mirror with that would make it clear up faster, if it wouldn't keep it from not fogging at all? It's a very large mirror, taking up most of one wall, so it must be a cheap remedy. Thanks so much!|||Shaving Cream- You coat the surface of the mirror in it and then wipe it off.|||rum well in a small bit of washing up liquid|||You can use a defogger like you use on your car windshield.

Buy it at a auto parts store.|||I am building my house and installing an electrical car screen defogger behind the mirror. I learnt this from a builder who did the same for a small hotel. Worked perfectly. The defogger cost me only $150.|||I heard rubbing alcohol does the trick.

If that doesn't work, my husband always blow dries the mirror...We have the same situation, no ventillation and no intake fan.|||Yep, I always use the blowdryer.|||use shaving cream on it!!...clean it with shaving cream..the foamy type..honestly!|||rub some soap on the mirror this will help|||Open the window while the fan is running.

Fresh air coming in replaces steamy air from your shower.

Also, lower the temperature of the water coming out of your shower by either turning up the cold water or turning down the hot water.

Less steam is created that way minimising the need to steam proof your mirror with hair conditioner.|||open the window or door, or if no windows wash somewhere else, only have one bathroom with no window cant help you|||STEP 1: Point a hair dryer at the mirror and turn it on at its hottest setting. Hold the hair dryer about 6 inches from the mirror.

STEP 2: Wave the hair dryer over the mirror until it is completely defogged.

STEP 3: If you do not have a hair dryer, open the bathroom door and wait a few seconds.

Tips %26amp; Warnings

Keeping a window open a crack and a fan running while you shower decreases the chances of the mirror fogging up.

Dry yourself off before using the hair dryer. Do not use electrical equipment in the tub

Defogging mirrors - To prevent bathroom mirrors from fogging in the first place, put some shaving cream on the mirror, wipe it off, and the mirror will not fog for 3-4 showers. The cheap, white, foam stuff, like Barbasol brand, seems to work best.

How can I get my bathroom tiles to look good when they are too deteriorated ?

I dont want to remove the tiles because it is expensive. I have used a epoxica paint (the paint took off a little bit) after that I used swimming pool paint but is too dry for a bathroom and it seems dirty all the time. So... what can I do? I dont want to spend much money to remove them.

Help me please.|||You can clean them with hot water and by using Ajax or Vim powder. Use a toothbrush or a similar kind of soft brush to scrub them with. I did this with my floor tiles in my bathroom. And what a nice job it made|||Why don't you try concrete paint? It's usually long wearing. Sounds like you already have a nice base to apply it.|||How about a shag rug that you cut to fit the room. Cover up the tile. A carpet remnant should be cheap.|||Apart from more paint I can't think of any thing short of replacing them.|||If it's simply a matter of them being very dirty, you can clean the tiles and the grout with bleach. Spray it on and leave it for 10 minutes or so then come back and scrub with a stiff brush. Open the windows and get a good draft going as bleach fumes can really hurt your lungs. It can also ruin your bathroom cabinets so make sure you don't spray it on them accidently. If dirt is not the problem, try repainting the tiles then finish with a coat or two of polyurethane. This will protect the paint job and add shine.

How do I remove hairspray buildup from my bathroom sink?

I frequently style my hair and use hairspray over my bathroom sink, and the spray has left a "residue" on my bathroom sink, which I spray and scrub but it doesn't come off. Any suggestions?|||I USE THE MAGIC ERASER OR SOFT SCRUB AND A SPONGE

GOOD LUCK~|||Wow, what kind of hairspray do you use? I wipe mine down daily with clorox wipes and never have buildup of hairspray. My daughter and i both use hairspray in front of the sink and have never had this problem.|||Vinegar.

Update:

I just read in Good Housekeeping magazine that you can use isopropyl alcohol to clean up hair spray.|||Use Kaboom! This is available at most WalMart and grocery stores for about $4 a bottle. Spray it on and wait about three minutes, then it will come right off.|||anything with amonia in it will work great.|||I don't know, but I do know if you have a bee in your house you can spray it with hair spray and it will turn stiff.|||HOt HOT water soak for a 30 min and scrub with a 409,comet, or tile spray. This works for the hair brushes too!|||Shampoo cleans hairspray out of your hair - it may work on your sink too.

When I was in high school, I used a lot of hairspray and ended up with a film on my glasses. I came to the above conclusion and started showering with my glasses %26amp; using my shampoo to clean them. Works like a charm for me!

Good luck!|||spray bottle, water, couple cap fulls of bleach....

or comet (something abrasive)

caution! not both at once

I saw on Martha Stewart that vodka works well, too.|||Use a sponge and soft crub with bleach.|||Stop using so much hairspray.|||Nail polish remover.|||Rubbing alcohol! It really works.|||Wish I only had your problems in life, lol|||plain bleach should cut through hairspray without any problem, you may want to pour some on a cloth until it is soaked, then lay it on top of the buildup to let it soften, then wipe.|||This happened to my mom. You can use Comet cleaner. It works!!

How to seperate my bathroom from my bedroom?

I have a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. The only problem Is, the bathroom is in the bedroom and there is no privacy that separates both rooms. What could I do to separate the bedroom from the bathroom, so that when I have guest they can't look into the bedroom? I was thinking of getting one of those privacy screens, but was hoping for something a little bit more creative and decorative.|||Several things you can do.

You can suspend a curtain from the ceiling.

You can put a shower "U" bar around the toilet.

Head to a thrift or salvage shop many times you can find glass blocks to make a makeshift wall.

Get large potted plants.

Get an open bookcase or take the back off an inexpensive one or leave the back on and cover it with stapled cloth then fill it with baskets for bath items and decorative items.

As a note an inexpensive bookshelf ( About 25$ ) There are so many things you can do to enhance the back ..Such as apply foam ( noise reducing ) Then tuft fabric to it. Or pleat the fabric with a stapler. Trim is easily had at the home improvement store.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-5-Sh鈥?/a>|||It depends a lot on how much room you have. Could you put a bookshelf in the space? That would give you storage on one side and you could put posters, or make a photo collage on the blank side. You could always put a curtain in the space, then it wouldn't be in your way when you are home alone.|||I just left this answer for someone else.. a wooden dowel or a rod.. or bamboo.. and two wooden fixtures from any store that are a complete circle.. affix to the cieling and put curtains on the rod (long 84 inch) and then hang .. will look really pretty :)

How do I get rid of the smell of dog pee in my bathroom floor?

Lately my dog has been disobedient and started to pee outside of his dog bathroom placed on my bathroom floor. Shes done that for over a week now. My bathroom floor is made of wood, and so it kind of like sucked in the smell, so now my bathroom smells like her pee. How can I get rid of this smell 100%? Without damaging the floor?|||Go to Petco or Pet Smart or your favorite pet store and ask for something to eliminate skunk odor. I don't remember the brand I had

but any that will take care of skunk will take care of that. As to what it

will do to the floor,I don't know. Read the directions to see if they provide information on that. You could even try just a q-tip of the solution in an inconspicous area to see if or how it affects the floor.

Good luck.|||Water and vinegar or even water and bleach|||You may want to check at a pet store for a product that removes pet urine odor. Most of them work very well, and should not cause any damage to your wood floor.|||Vinegar will remove odor but it will darken the wood.

I wash the wood with a mix of olive oil and vinegar.

How do you keep your bathroom walls from getting moldy?

Our bathroom was redone fairly recently (within the last 5 years) and the ceiling and tops of the walls are spotted with mold! Ewww! I don't recall that happening before, at least not to this degree. How can I get rid of it? And how can I prevent it? Is there a certain paint or a certain type of drywall that prevents this sort of thing from happening?|||Spray with a solution of water and Clorox, and lots of ventilation, ventilation, ventilation.|||Install a ceiling bathroom fan from home depot. The fan will have air circulating and taking all the moisture out of your bathroom. When you are done taking a shower open the window too. You will still have to clean some mold every now and then. The fan is the best way to go for, because it will take some of the bad smelly gas to the outside of the house when someone stinky takes a dump. Make sure is a strong fan too. Having a Fan will be more Fun. good luck. I bet you don't have one installed. How do I make the bathroom smell good?

Once my dad had a lady who cleaned his house and after she was done cleaning the bathrom smelled so good.

What kind of cleaners will make a bathroom smell good?|||Lavender Candles,

Baby Powder In a Sock, Layed In a Shelf.

Place Irish Spring ( opened ) on each end of Bathtub, Thats how i do mine.|||Lemon-scented lysol works well too.|||You can go to a dollar store and buy a replacement toilet paper insert with fragrance "beads." They will release a perfumed odor every time you roll the toilet paper.

Also, wipe down the seat and behind the seat with scented cleaning wipes. Amazing how we get used to low-level ammonia smells and getting rid of that makes the bathroom smell nicer.

You can also dab vanilla on light bulbs when they are off and cold, so when you turn them on, the heat from the bulbs releases the scent.

Buy some scented disinfecting spray and use it, and not only will the bathroom smell better, you might find yourself healthier.|||I love using Caldrea brand products because they use safe ingredients that don't harm you, your house, or the environment. They smell wonderful too. For my laundry detergent I like the Sweet Pea but I know you want to clean your bathroom so try the Ginger Pomelo line. The all purpose cleaner is good for pretty much anything in the bathroom but the lavender-pine scented line has alot more cleaning products. It's important to actually clean the bathroom not just cover up the smells but if you would like a fragrance in the bathroom you should try a room diffuser. It's basically scented oil in a container with bamboo (or other material) reeds (sticks) sticking out of the top to dispurse the oil. I love the Thymes company but they can be a little expensive. The nice thing is they last very long and you aren't burning anything (like a candle) so they are completely safe for constant useage. My favorite diffuser the Thymes carries is the "White Persimmon". It smells like peaches! Yum.|||A product called Odor Ban is great in the bathroom. You buy it at Sam's, it comes in a gallon jug and it is concentrated so it goes a long way.|||Place a Bounce Dryer sheet in a hidden corner or up on a shelf somewhere...smells great and lasts for quite a while...|||air freshener|||My wife and I use those oil lamps.

These are the type that you let burn for about 2 minutes then blow the flame out. The oil is very inexpensive, and the lamps are very beautiful. You can buy them at places like Hallmark stores.

How do I get my bathroom door unlocked?

Here is the stupid question of the night. I've never had this problem before. I was cleaning my bathroom and I left to go into the kitchen, closing the door behind me. I didn't know I had the knob in the lock position. It's just a regular old knob, it has two screws on either side. If I get a philips head screwdriver and unscrew them will the knob just fall off on each side, letting me unlock them and put them back together?|||Normally the screws are on the same side as the lock mechanism. On the outside of the privacy lock is a small hole dead center. You can take a very small bladed flat screwdriver and stick it in the slot to turn the thumb lock to the unlocked position. If you have a privacy lock key handy it will do the trick. In new homes the carpenter usually lays it on top of the trim above the door.

If you have a kwikset privacy lock and the screws are on the outside you can remove the knob and use a screwdriver to push the bolt back and open the door.|||"Paper" certainly has explained it well. I cannot imagine a key/lock system for a bathroom passage knob. I also agree that the screws are never on the side we would like them to be, in a case like this. I'll assume I don't know everything about every manufacturing design however.

BTW it isn't a Dumb question. have you ever surfed some asked here? :)

There is another option,,, and I'll further assume you weren't locked in your bathroom when you typed this.

You could possibly use a wide blade putty/paint knife, disrupt the door jamb, and push in against the latch throw piece.

On another note, and with no offense, I've never quite understood LOCKING doors INside a home.|||Probably. But you can easily put it back together once the door is opened. You might as well replace with one that you pick from outside, not expensive.|||There should be a small hole in the center of the out side knob just stick a small nail in the hole and push, this releases the lock. I believe this is the most common.|||The bathroom lock should have an external method to unlock it. I know of three.

One is a coin slot, you put a penny in it and turn counter-cloockwise.

Another is a small rectangular hole which can be turned counter clockwise with a small screwdriver.

The third is a small round hole through which you can push a small allen wrench, tiny screwdriver or stiff wire. Pushing firmly will "pop" the lock on the other side just the same as turning the inside know would.

How do I clean painted bathroom walls?

My bathroom walls have a build up of hairspray, soapscum and mold. I have used Pine Sol. That helped for a while. What is the average cost of remodeling a bathroom?

The bath room is about 6x12. There was titlng place half way up the walls(the floor was not done. The rest of the walls were painted by the contractors), a new toilet, a new bathtub with sliding glass doors, a messager head for the shower, a new cabinet with 4 lights with it, a fan in the bathroom with a way for air to ciruclate out(with a light attached to the fan, a towel rack, a metal toilet paper dispencer and a metal robe hook placed on the bathroom door. And if you have little boys (3-5ish, before they get to old to look in on) in the house, ban standing if you find wet spots where they don't belong. Tell them that standing to pee is a privelege that they have to earn and can be taken away, they will soon be more careful.|||it could be in the subflooring from old urine.. you might have to check to see if there is dry rot around your toilet.. and it might have to be replaced.|||You may need to replace the wax ring under your toilet. Also, like other above me said. If men in the house, you may need to wipe down the walls...sorry about this!|||If the sink is infrequently used, the smell may be from the sink trap. If it is dry, it can allow sewer gases out. Try running some water down the sink every few days.|||The person needs to have a check up. Tell the doctor about the smell.

That what was done. I do realise that it is difficult to estimated when there are other factors un-answered, but please give me a ball park estimate. I believe the current contractors are charging way too much money for a relativly simple project.|||$4-6 thousand.|||$5,000 is about the minimum to have complete bathroom renovation done by a professional.

Is there a certain paint or a certain type of drywall that prevents this sort of thing from happening?|||Bleach will remove it and deter it coming back. Next time you repaint use a special bathroom paint. If possible install an extractor fan and ventilate, ventilate, ventilate.|||First, place vinegar in a spray bottle and spray directly on the mold. Wait a few minutes and then wipe off- the mold should wipe off with it. I chose vinegar because it is non-toxic, cheaper, and is not harsh like bleach (meaning your clothes will not suffer from bleach stains). Lowe's Home Improvement store will assist you in finding a fungicidal/mold resistant paint. This paint can be clear or colored. If you have an exhaust fan, it will remove excess humidity thus preventing mold. Ventilation is crucial so that mold will not have the ability to grow (also, shorter and cooler showers).|||Clean it with a product first and then from now on - whenever you take a shower, etc Dry The Walls. All that water? It wears them down, water always erodes. My family invested in a "Squegee" you can purchase all sizes of these at Lowes, Home Depot, etc and squegee the excess water off your tiles.|||There is a special product that you can buy that you spray on you wall to get rid of the mold. You can buy it at Lowes, Menards, or Home Depot.|||A 50/50 mixture of bleach and water will kill and remove existing mold. You need more airflow in this room. Moisture breeds mold.

How do you unlock a bathroom door from the outside?

I accidentally locked my bathroom door from the inside. It is one of those doorknobs with the little hole in the middle and on the inside you turn it to lock it.

I've tried using the ink tube from a pen and a safety pin but neither have worked. Help!|||Wire clothes hanger. Straighten it out and inset barely into the hole in the door. Lift the end so that the point now slightly points down. Slowly push the hangar into the knob and you will feel the release pin. Apply slow pressure and turn the knob as soon as you feel it depress. If this does not work, Look at the knob... Are the screws available on our side? Unscrew the door knob, remove your side and place a straight slit screw driver in there and turn. This will release the door as well. If this does not work, look at the door jamb... Are the hinges available for you to get at? Use a Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer to tap them out from the bottom. Once all two or three are removed you can open the door from this side.

Hope this helps. The coat hanger is your best bet. You may want to clip the end flat with tin snips if you have them, but t will work.|||Welp took longer to bend the hangar than open the door - elapsed time from search on Yahoo approx. 20 min. Good Answer.

Maybe you can find a thin piece of sturdy wire to get it open in the meantime.|||Sometimes just pushing on the stem isn't enough. Some brands, such as Kwikset require a small screwdriver. Insert a flat bladed screwdriver and feel for a slot in the end of the stem. Turn it (I forget which way, but there's only 2 possibilities!) and you are in.

Anyway, we just use a round toothpick and poke it in there just right and the lock pops right out. After a little practice, you'll be getting done on the first try. Good luck. This kind of thing happens all the time.|||you need to use something very rigid yet small enough to fit the hole, such as a small screwdriver, or a small straight punch.you may also try a large paper clip.the next step is to insert the tool into the hole in the doorknob, and push with about 15 pounds of pressure.you may have to fish around a little to find the unlock mechanism.putting pressure on this mechanism will unlock the door.

How can I make my bathroom odor free?

Hello! My husband and I live in an older apartment, and our bathroom doesn't have a vent or any air ventilation whatsoever. We have to keep the door closed when not in use (our cat unrolls all of the toilet paper, lol), but then when we open the door, the room smells heavily of mildew. Are there any creative ideas for getting rid of the bad smells? I'm a neat freak and am constantly cleaning, but it doesn't seem to help; neither do air fresheners or plug-ins. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks!|||if you are cleaning thouroghly with lysol or bleach, the mold is likely inside your walls or floor. If there was ever a water leak in the past, or currently, the wood inside your walls may be growing molds. Some molds can be highly hazardous to your health. If you can't get rid of the smell, you should address with your landlord asap. If landlord doesn't check out and get you an adequate solution, then you should report the problem to the health department. Additionally, you can get a portable dehumidifier which should remove any excess moisture in the room and help prevent the growth of molds and mildews, and filter other nasty bathroom smells - lol.|||I fully agree with Jane.A bathroom or any room for that matter, shouldn't smell like mildew or mold, even if it is old.You have some kind of a mold issue. If you are renting this apartment then your landlord is responsible for fixing this problem. If not then you should contact a company that specializes in water damage and repairs, so they can assess your problem.Mold and mildew can kill.If it doesn't make you sick it will at least ruin the walls beyond repair eventually. This can be a very serious issue that must be dealt with immediately.Skip the coverup it won't work.|||I saw a tall box type toilet paper holder that stores about three rolls plus has a roller for one to be in use, it rolls out of a slot that would keep it from being unravelled by the cat. After every shower, spray shower tiles and curtain/door with a solution of 2tsp tea tree oil (Wal-mart pharmacy) in 12oz water. Shake well. This will help prevent mildew from growing and kill any that has already begun to grow. If you don't start alllowing air into the room, you will start mold growing on everything including the ceiling. You can also try putting up a pet barrier in the doorway to discourage the cat from destroying stuff.|||Spray the walls and ceiling with vinegar and wipe it down. That will start the process of odor removal in there. Then turn on a fan and leave it in there til the vinegar dries.I pour vinegar down my drains every week.I live in a very old house and had that same problem.I just mist my shower and mop with it every nite.No more odor...Hope this helps.|||The best air freshner i have found is Ecosorb, my dad gets gallons from work, and puts them in little spray bottles, and in seconds it removes bad smells and keeps them away.|||Buy a air filter fan and use the charcoal pre-filter they come in many different sizes if not have an exhaust fan put it. How do I remove my bathroom sink faucet fixture?

I have a single handle bathroom faucet fixture and it is dripping. From what I have read I need to replace the washer. The trouble is, I have no clue how to even remove the faucet. thanks.|||do not try to fix it. go to hardware store and get you a new one and it has directions how to install.|||You should be able to find a tiny screw behind the faucet. Remove this and the head should come off to reveal a nut at the end of a spindle. Unscrew this nut and you can then withdraw the jumper holding the tap washer. Replacing it is a reverse of the instructions. Bfore you replace the jumper holding the washer, make sure the washer seating is clean. Just turn the washer over to a new side, no need to buy a new one. Make sure hot and cold water is turned off before you start.|||You don't remove the faucet and there is no washer. There are a couple of makes. Turn off the water both hot and cold to it. Is the handle all metal? If so, there will be a screw on the side facing you. Use an allen wrench to remove that, then remove the "ring" or nut under it. With the ring will come some plastic stuff and under that will be a ball. If it is plastic, get a new one and two springs and seats (the brand name is Delta) that go in under the ball. Be certain to replace all the stuff that was on top of the ball facing the correct direction.

If the handle is plastic, pry off the center cover and there will be a phillips head screw under it. Take that out, remove the plastic knob and proceed as before .

How can I make a bathroom more modern in a rented apartment?

I live in a rental and my bathroom looks really old and 70s-ish. As I don't own it I can't make big changes (nor want to spend lots of money doing it).

My tiles are a light blue colour, medium sized and the shower is in the bath.

I am looking for more than just changing the bath towel colour and hanging a shower curtain. Any good ideas?|||If you get permission, buy a can of paint, a discontinued colour is usually cheapest, (make sure you buy enough as if it's discontinued, you may not be able to buy a second can if you run out). I'd choose a light cream or white. As either of these are neutral colours, the landlord is more likely to agree to it. Remove any curtains from the window (you can hang them back up when you leave) and place a few plants along the window sill in their place. Two fluffy bath mats that you can alternate between add a touch of luxury and are soft under foot when you step out of the shower. Maybe a chrome towel rail, chrome hooks, and stainless steel shower caddy to hold soap/shampoo etc for inside shower/bath.|||Hi Nacho,

Some renters can paint and others not. If your landlord will let you paint now and then paint it back to white when you move, I say paint it baby. It's the cheapest, fastest way to redo a room. If your looking for modern with light blue tiles, paint walls dark tan or if your bold enough, chocolate brown. Brown and blue look fab together. You can buy a gallon of Walmart's brand paint for about $10-15 bucks. I'd use satin or eggshell in a bathroom. Answer your question?? dm|||Chocolate brown and light blue are a very popular combination (and very modern). You might want to choose a wall paper that has both of those colours. Then you could add accents like a vase for the back of the toilet, or candle holders. You might buy a chocolate brown set of mats (light blue gets dirty too quickly.) Leave the towels to be light blue and do a clear shower curtain so that it doesn't get too dark. Something else you might wanna do would be to have the "display towels" and then install a towel rack on the back of the door for the towels you actually use. Then you don't have to make sure that the "pretty" ones are clean all the time.|||You can change the light fixture or just put a modern covering over it. Add black vases and black picture frames with sharp lines. Put a black door length mirror on the door to make the room look bigger. Put a stainless steel shower caddy on your shower head to organize your things. Hope that helps!

Can you find a completely white or white with brass bathroom liquid soap dispenser?

I want a soap dispenser that will sit on my bathroom sink. I have not been able to find one that would match my bathroom. Can I connect a new bathroom vent fan duct in basement to existing one from 1st floor thats already going out?

I'm installing a bathroom in the basement and want to connect the new duct to an existing duct that is already running to the outside. Can I do it ?|||you can but each fan will not be as effective when both are on at the same time

I have a large bathroom in my office. Is it possible to use an electric power washer to blast away dirt?

I saw one on sale for $200 in Lowes. How can you use an electric power washer indoors and hook it up to the water so I can blast away in the bathroom.|||If the bathroom is in your office, they should have a department called maintenance, housekeeping, or janitor.....They should take care of it. A power washer has too much power for indoor use it can blow the walls out....So call maintenance so you don't lose your job for blowing down walls and save that $200........Plus you asked these question twice in one day, you must have just moved in recently. I suggest if you want to keep your office maintenance is the way........

Think Twice about what you do...........|||it's possible to use a power washer anywhere, but i wouldn't use one in your case. #1 it's too much power and you're going to make a big mess. there's a cheap cleaner called "awesome" that you can get at the 99 cent store or dollar store. it's concentrated. put it on with a spray bottle, and i know it's more work, but use a scrub brush. then rinse with plain water. if this doesn't work nothing will. you get to keep your $200. you won't have to blast away, and you'll get a better job done.|||If you absolutely have to buy something to help you clean the bathroom, purchase a steamer. They are absolutely hell on dirt and won't make as much of a mess as the power washer.|||You can use a power washer to clean everything. The problems arise when the item you are cleaning will not resist the moisture or the power of the spray. I would consider this to be one of those situations where I would NOT use a power washer unless this bathroom is tiled at least half way up the wall all around the room, the entire floor and also has a central floor drain or 2. I really need help.

My bathroom is cold, everytime when I go in to have a shower, facial, it's torture.

I hope I helped some.|||You only pee twice the whole day at school? Most people pee every 3-4 hours during waking hours.

One way to tell if you're getting enough water is the color of your pee. It should be almost clear; anything darker and you're not getting enough water.|||Coke contains both carbonic acid and caffeine, both of which are mild diuretics (they dehydrate you a little). That caused your body to be in a constant state of dehydration, thus you didn't urinate very frequently and your body's natural set-point for hydration dropped a little. With the introduction of more water into your daily routine, your body feels over hydrated, and thus you are urinating more frequently. Clear urine is a good thing, and it's also a good thing that you are using the bathroom more than twice a day. Keep up your new, healthier habits and your body will adjust!

Why do I have gnats in my bathroom?

For the past couple of weeks I have been noticing gnats flying around my bathroom. I can't figure out what is causing them. I keep my bathroom clean and I empty the trash regulary. I see them in the shower mostly so could they be coming from the drain? Does anyone have any suggestions what caused this or what can be done to stop it? I have those in my bathroom too, I think they're mosquitos. I know that mosquito lay eggs in water so I figured that they came from the drains and toilet. To get rid of them, you can try fly traps. If you see one flying around, spray it with hairspray, then kill it when it falls. If it's a huge nuisance, you can call an exterminator. I know it's not much help, but good luck.

What are the normal bathroom rules for a pre-kindergarten class?

My 5 year old son recently started a pre-kindergarten summer school and today he came home crying and saying that his teacher wouldnt allow him to go to the restroom to poop. He and another class member said that the teacher said no bathroom until the work is done. Consequently, my son had an accident in his underwear-twice. My son says someone-not his teacher-cleaned him up and changed his clothes. Am I wrong to assume that young children should be allowed to go poop whenever the urge hits them? I realize this may not sound like such a big problem to some, but this is my child and it upsets me that he was humiliated in this way. Please give me some feedback on this subject.|||Oh absolutely not. Report the teacher or change schools.

My son is in a pre-kindergarten summer program, and they would NEVER make them wait until their work is done to use the restroom. I don't think that's even borderline legal.

I don't know if it's the same in pre-k (if it's not, it ought to be) but in a home situation, using potty training or anything involved in it as a method of manipulation or discipline constitutes child abuse in at least a few states. I don't see anything different in that and what this teacher was doing.

Trust me, it does "sound like such a big problem" to me. I'd be pissed off beyond belief to find out a teacher did that at the school I send my kids to. Please don't send your child to this teacher again, and for the sake of the other kids in the class whose parents may not know what is going on, please report the teacher -- IMMEDIATELY.

Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

The teacher's detatched explanation that he didn't "effectively communicate" to her that he believed it was an emergency shows she neither actually cares about the kids in her class, but also that she has no real understanding of what four- and five-year-olds are like.

By asking your son "Is it an emergency", I'm guessing her tone was clearly telling your son "Back off". Plus, four- and five-year-olds don't have a really clear understanding of what is and what is not "an emergency", they can have less control over their bowels and bladders than a fully-functioning adult, and they can be easily manipulated into giving what they think is the "right answer". This woman seems to be thinking that pre-k students should be treated like junior high students. Her uncaring answer when you called her out on it makes that pointedly clear.

Please do not keep your son home to "work on his bathroom hygeine," as though ANY of this were his fault. He had to go to the bathroom. He told his teacher. That is all he should be required to do. Keep him home, by all means, but not to work with him on what he did wrong. He did nothing wrong here.|||Most early childhood programs are required to have bathrooms available either in the room or have staff that can take a child to the bathroom when they need/want to go. Your child nor any other should not be subjected to this kind of humiliation. They are forming their first experiences with "school" and each child should be afforded a positive, child-oriented experience. I would talk to whomever is in charge of the program to voice my displeasure and concern for the children's first experiences with "school" as a negative one. Don't make a big deal of it with your son, but let him know he should bug that teacher, who in my opinion has no business working with young children, when he has to go to the bathroom. Is there only one teacher in the room? If there are two, if one doesn't respond, tell him to go to the other teacher. I have a Master's in Early Childhood Special Education and have been a teacher, director and consultant with Early Childhood Education programs for 35+ years. I'm appalled that a "teacher" would do this to a child and then respond the way she did with you. Go with you "gut" feeling and protect your child! Good luck and I hope this helped a little.|||1.) take a pass

2.) come right back

3.) flush the toilet

4.) wash your hands

5.) dont forget the pass, bring it right back to class.|||good heavens! is this kindergarten run by the Gestapo?! just what kind of person denies a child use of the bathroom? she's (I assume) probably trying to get them not to use the bathroom so much, multiply your kid by 18, 19, or 20, but the outcome should tell her it's not working. Is there a school nurse to talk to? or school social worker? i think the teacher's expectations are too high, maybe she needs older students.|||The rules state that there should be at least one coed bathroom, one child at a time, with or without the help of the teacher, in which children, when they need, can go to the bathroom. You should probably complain to the school about this awful teacher; kids at that age havn't nescessarily learned control, and therefore, the teacher should allow them to go. This is horrible; don't let this continue, for your sake and for your child's sake.

I'm happy that you spoke with the teacher, but I'm worried that the teacher still hasn't come to an understanding about this situation. For the pre-kindergarten level, there are various summer programs and classes which offer fun and educational activities as well as make your child feel at home. I'm sure that you will be able to find a great place for your child this summer, and I hope that this horrible teacher doesn't get in the way of your child's childhood experiences. One's childhood is supposed to be full of fun, and I don't want this to get in the way of that.

Best wishes, and I hope this helped out!|||I have been a preschool teacher for 14 year and my advise is get your child out of that class . That is abuse.|||I'm really shocked at what you are saying. Not only children, but adults too, when they have to go they have to go.

You must have a word with this teacher and report this incident to the person in charge. Tell the person that you will consider placing your child in another place if this happens again.|||No, you are not wrong to think young children should be allowed to go to the bathroom when needed. Try talking to your son's teacher to fix the problem. Your son should be allowed to go to the bathroom when he needs to (as long as he does not abuse this right and goes to the bathroom to miss class.)

At the school I attend, we have a few bathroom rules: 1. Only go to the bathroom if you need to. 2. Do not run or play in the bathroom. And there are some more, too.|||You have every right to be upset. You should speak to his teacher. If the issue can't be resolved that way, you should file a complaint with the principal. It's one thing if your son was abusing the privilege and getting up to go to the bathroom every few minutes, and it's another if a teacher causes your son to defecate on himself.|||Take a pass and don't make a mess. That is very unreasonable that he/she did that to your son and the other child.|||Preschool children should be allowed to use the bathroom any time they need to. Take your child out of the program, today! Speak to the principal and be absolutely clear about how unhappy you are. Go to a school board member. In other words, cause lots of trouble , The teacher should not be working with young children, Actually, the teacher should not be working with kids at all! A good pre-k shouldn't be about "work" that has to be finished. Reassure your child that what happened was not his fault. While you are at it find out what the policy will be in his kindergarten classroom.|||I think they should be allowed to I mean they are 4 and5 they do not know how to hold it in I mean come on. I think they should!

How do I temporarily cover up my bathroom floor?

I'm getting ready to move into a new house, but the main bathroom floor is some weird-looking fake tile pattern. I'd like to cover it up with more than just a small bathroom rug, and I don't know the exact dimensions off the top of my head...

Since I'm only renting the place, setting actual tile is out of the question. I need to use something that can be taken off without any serious damage. So if you can think of anything that doesn't involve me losing my deposit...answer away!|||Carpet tiles are an option, however, carpeting in a bathroom is really not a good idea -- mold, mildew, smells -- all that kind of stuff.

You can get some mighty fine looking linoleum remnants that can be cut and shaped for your bathroom. It doesn't have to be a perfect fit...just try and keep some kind of form (i.e., the same width border all around). You don't need to glue the linoleum down, just run a heater or hair dryer for a while until it becomes flexible and straightens out. If you feel more comfortable "attaching" it to the floor, use a few strips of double-sided sticky tape.

Another option is sticky floor tiles adhered to a piece of canvas fabric.

And, still another option is simply canvas fabric (you won't run into the same problems as carpeting) that can be decorated with paint -- a motif, stencils, etc. Seal the canvas with several coats of flooring-grade water-based polyurethane if desired (will help it wear better).

You can also paint the back of a linoleum remnant with a color and design of your choice and seal with the same water-based finish. I have several of these linoleum "area rungs" in my kitchen on which I did a faux marbling, and they look really, really nice.

HGTV.com also provides a wealth of information, and they have a forum where you can ask this question and get even more responses and good ideas.|||There is a new type of vinyl that has a fiberglass core than can be cut tight to the walls and loose laid on the floor. A couple types sold here in California are Armstrong Cushion Step and Naturcore - I think there's another manufacturer called Tarkett.

How do I clean bathroom granite that liquid soap has absorbed into it?

We just bought this house and the people before half assed all the "updates" and I am sure they didn't seal the granite in the bathroom. Redoing a second floor bathroom: question on the weight of Tub?

I'm going to be redoing my upstairs bathroom and moving the bathtub so it goes parallel to the joints. I'm planning on putting an additional subfloor down however should I worry about the weight of the tub? If so, any ideas of what to do?|||Take the height %26amp; spacing of the joists, for instance, 2" x 10" on 16" centers, then look it up in a span table. You might find a span table here:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26amp;sa=X%26amp;鈥?/a>

A Kohler Mendota cast iron tub weights in at 370 lbs + 45 gallons of water @ 8.35 lbs/gallon + a person (standing) gets a total weight of 945 lbs over 32" x 60" or 13.34 sq ft results in a load of 70.84 lbs /sq ft. (this may not be evenly distributed, but I don't know how to account for that).

Having said that (and hoping that the math is correct) I have installed %26amp; serviced many cast iron tubs and never come across any sort of support issue.|||most tubs are now made of poly resin and fiberglass lightweight and easy to move just make sure you have no water leaks when finished|||would not worry about the weight of the tub, i would worry when its full, of water, 1 gal weighs aprox 8 to 9 pounds,

if it held it before it should still hold it,|||The best time to address this is NOW. It may be able to carry the load of the tub and the water(8lbs per gallon), but wouldn't it be better to sister some lumber to the existing joists now? I would, even if the tub was going in the same location. Overkill?? Better than a tub falling through the floor.|||By moving the tub parallel to the floor joists could possibly be a problem. First there is a possibility that you may have to remove a joist to accommodate the tub drain which would weaken the floor and like another answer suggested the weight of a empty tub is probably not a concern, but with the tub filled with water you would have to be concerned. If I were you, I would consult with a structural engineer and have him or(her) advise me on how it should be done. It is better to be safe rather than sorry.|||With all due respect to you and others, and BTW I'm leaning toward one concept JAKE suggests. You state JOINTS, not JOISTS. Define JOINTS.

First of all the Joists/beams/rafters; whatever you want to call them; that support the second story; especially where the tub is located; should already be situated over a LOAD bearing support structure below. To move the tub off that support is a bad idea.

With no offense meant to one answer stating materials other than IRON/Enamled tubs; That might actually be better in the sense of a tub on any level but a Slab.

It would help you to know the load bearing capability of the per. sq. ft. of that second level floor.

As others suggest. Water weighs 8.5 lbs. per gallon. A usual tub might hold 50 gallons for a deep, nice bath. Adding another/additional sub floor is confusing, unless the purpose is for more than just supporting a tub. All you're doing is adding weight to the support structure holding up that area of the second level.

So, considering the weight of any tub; plus 425 lbs. of water; plus or minus; and the weight of the body in the tub; Say for arguments sake a total weight of 685 lbs. plus or minus; I'd be curious to know what parallel means to you; and I'd not strictly want to be sitting below; relaxing; watching my new LCD TV while anyone was bathing.

Just my 2 cents.

How to tile a bathroom wall around a tub?

We are redoing our bathroom. We own a mobile home and want to put tile around the tub as opposed to the fiberglass wall surrond. I just bought the hardi backer, but I am not sure what else I need to do. I know I need to put somehting around the seems on the backer, but what? Also how do I do the part where the tub and backer/tile meet. Do I have to do anything special where the backer ends at the wall?

Thanks for all the help.|||same as the last two people, however, I'd like to add something.

If you have a fiberglass surround now sitting above a tub you do not have the correct type of tub to tile over.

I'm sure there are guys out there who say it's fine to tile anyway but it's not.

There needs to be what's called a tile flange on the tub.

My plumbing supply dealer will install one for me so I would assume you can have this done with the tub in place. If this is not done, at some point your tile/tub joint will leak and/or you will have a mold issue that can only be fixed by pulling off the backer and re doing it the proper way.

I own a telephone consultation service with good rates. If you would like to still try this yourself you will need to be connected with a professional during the project. You are welcome to email me and I can give you the contact info if you need more help.|||For the joints of the backer board you put fiberglass mesh tape then skim with thin set. I also put a heavy mill plastic behind the board but over the top lip of the tub then cover it with the board. you will have to shim the wall studs to met the thickness of the tub edge so you have a flat surface to mount the board. If you do not lap the board over the tub edge it will crack in time. where the board meets the wall make sure the board and the drywall are flat and extend the tile 1 to inches on to the drywall, or again it will crack.|||Make a measure up one full tile from the top of the bathtub and mark the measurement. Use a level and pencil to mark a level line on that mark across the entire wall. Use a drill with a screwdriver attachment to secure the 1-by-2-inch board to the wall with the top edge of the board touching the level line. And use a notched trowel to spread thin-set mortar evenly onto the wall, ensuring that it is evenly notched. Spread thin-set mortar evenly onto the back of a tile, ensuring that the mortar is evenly notched. Press the tile firmly in place against the wall. Use the level to ensure that the tile is plumb. Then repeat step to for every additional tile. Place tile spacers between each tile to create even grout lines throughout your surface area. Use a wet tile saw to cut the tile to size before you set it in place. Allow the thin-set to cure completely. The curing time for the thin-set mortar will be listed on the packaging. Remove the 1-by-2-inch board from the wall. Set the bottom row of tiles.|||i could do like the guy above me and describe it, but if you don't know how to do it, it's still gonna come out horrible. hire a professional to do it.|||and this is why i watch HGTV

How do you remove a mirror from bathroom wall without breaking it?

Ok so we bought a house and in the bathroom, the previous owners had left a 5foot by 4 foot mirroir vanity. It is really nice and we want to keep it for something else. But the bad thing is, i think they glued it to the wall. Any tips how to get it off the bathroom wall without breaking it?

Thankyou so much!!!|||STOP RIGHT THERE ~!

do not do anything with such a huge piece of unsupported glass that is not laminated or tempered .

if this breaks it will slice you in half .been there done that .

first thing to do is to apply a generous amount of good quality duct tape . it will be easy to remove once you get the mirror free ( dont leave it on longer than 6 hours as it will leave a residue you will need to use paint thinner to get off .

Remove the mirror clips from the top , with a broad and very thin putty knife release the top by sliding the knife along . wear long gauntlet style leather gloves so if it breaks you dont get it in the wrist .

you will be able to slight flex the mirror , no more than a 1/4 inch so you can get longer and longer tools behind it to release the mirror mastic .make sure you have help and make sure your all prepared before you start . have all the necessary tools to clean up a broken mirror .

all parties in the room must wear safety goggles and not safety glasses , when glass breaks it scatters and can get in behind the glasses.

Please do note ; a new piece of mirror 5 x 4 is about a 100 bucks with pencil polished edges .

good luck and please be safe ~!|||Spray a solvent down the sides and from the top, even hosehold cleaners work ok. also use a blow dryer/heat gun to soften up edges, use a puddy knife to start and repeat the step over and over, dont pull on the glass, best is to try and rotate it when its un the wall left and right and so on.|||You need to support the Mirror so that when it drops it wont break. What do dreams about going to the bathroom mean?

I often dream that I'm trying to go to the bathroom and there are people around when I need to go. Like...the bathroom is in a public area with no stalls and all I want is privacy. Weird, I know. And a lot of the time the toilet is either too small or overflowing or something weird besides just a normal toilet. Really freaky. What does this mean?|||"and all I want is privacy"

Every successful person I know has a little nagging fear that one day everyone will find out that they are just an ordinary person, no better than the rest. Good luck.|||Bathroom = privacy

toilet too small = low self esteem

overflowing = over confidence

It most likely means something about your social life. You want to keep everything inside. You do not like to share lots of stuff with people. Projecting small toilet could mean you have some issues in confidence. Perhaps sometimes you are down because you are respected as much. Overflowing could symbolize what you want in life. However, that is also too much in some extent because it is normal. In other words, your privacy is somehow being invaded. Not invaded by others, but by your low self esteem.

This dream basically tells me your personalities. You may be low in self esteem at the moment. You are losing confidence some times. Where there is a chance, you may be overdoing it|||this might be helpful
